A Song to Welcome 2018

Remembering Our Past: Depending on what we choose to recall, and depending on how we choose to recall it, 2017 was an annus horribilis; or an annus mirabilis; or simply an annus rabidus. A full, crazy year. And we're the lucky ones.

Abq Jew wishes all of us a New Year of

Health and Happiness!
Prosperity and Progress!
Joy and Wonder!
Hope and Life!

In April 2017, Chaim Tannenbaum (see Oy [Chaim] Tannenbaum!) released a video of America the Beautiful. He wrote:
In a former time, America was the hope of mankind. It promised no less than that life would be led freely and justly. Free men and women dedicated themselves to a set of principles that would make such life manifest and durable. For the sake of these principles - for the proper love of country -  they might weary themselves and suffer lavish risk and injury.
We fear that that hope has been forfeit, the promises abandoned, those principles traduced. We fear they have been supplanted by grotesquery, by greed and jealousy, by threats and sneers and lies, lies upon lies upon lies.
We had an idea, I, C.J. Camerieri (trumpet, french horn) and Marcus Rojas (euphonium, tuba), that by calling to mind that former time, we might give courage to ourselves and to others who might wish to recover its spirit and mandate. - Chaim Tannenbaum

America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
